• Front doors – Commonly used for main entry points, especially 5-lever models that meet relevant security standards, such as BS 3621.
• Back and side doors – Mortice sashlocks are excellent for securing secondary access points, often with a handle and key mechanism.
• Internal doors – Used for privacy reasons in rooms like bathrooms and studies.
• Commercial properties – Suitable for offices and other buildings with heavy footfall that need reliable locking systems.

Yes.

Mortice sashlocks can be fitted to existing doors as a new installation or replacement; however, fitting a new mortice sashlock usually requires modifying the door, because the lock body has to sit inside a recess (AKA a mortice) cut into the edge of the door.

If you’re replacing an existing lock, you’ll need to check that the new lock’s dimensions match the old one, and if they don’t, you may need to enlarge or rout out the cavity or adjust the strike area in the frame.
