Part Q - Approved Document Q
What is Part Q and how does it apply to me as a joinery manufacturer?
In October 2015 the building regulations were amended for England, through the introduction of Approved Document Q.
- It applies to new dwellings, where work started or planning permission was granted after the 1st of October 2015
- Regulation applies to doors and windows providing access from the outside
- Does not apply to new build hotels or other commercial buildings
- Does apply if a building becomes a dwelling through change of use, i.e a barn or warehouse conversion
- Does not apply to replacement window and doors
How do I make sure my joinery complies to Part Q?
There are two ways you can make sure your products comply with Approved Document Q.
1. Design and manufacture your product in accordance with Appendix B (Doors only).
Approved Document Q includes an Appendix B giving a pre-determined specification allowing you to build a door set that complies with Approved Document Q.
2. Manufacture to a design that has been shown by test to meet the security requirements of British Standards publication PAS 24:2016 (Doors and Windows).
