What is Osmo Polyx Hardwax-Oil?

Osmo Polyx Hardwax-Oil, is developed from natural oils and waxes to provide a hard wearing and durable protection for wooden flooring and furniture. The Polyx Oil provides the highest hard wearing protection, being scratch and scuff resistant as well as being repellent to any liquids. 
 


Application

How to apply Osmo Polyx Oil?

When applying the oil apply a thin layer of Polyx Oil with a bristle brush a mirco roller or floor brush, apply it along the wood grain and spread it well to give maximum coverage over the surface area.

  1. Before the Osmo Polyx Oil is applied the wood surface must be clean and dry. Remove any old varnishes or lacquers by sanding. Remove any dust with a vacuum cleaner.
  2. Before use stir the oil well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Polyx Oil 
  4. After the first coat is applied wait 8-10 hours (under good ventilation) for the Osmo Polyx Oil to dry.
  5. Apply a second coat to the surface.
  6. Will take 2-3 weeks for the surface to fully cure

How long does Osmo Polyx Hardwax-Oil take to dry?

After applying the first coat, the Osmo oil drying time is normally between 8 and10 hours when you have good ventilation during drying time. When applying to wooden floors, after the application of two coats the floor can be used with light traffic, however the curing process takes around 2-3 weeks to complete, during this time it is best to avoid placing mats or rugs on the floor.


Aftercare and Maintenance

How to maintain Osmo Polyx Oil?

Wood surfaces treated with Polyx®-Oil are highly repellent and easy to maintain. Remove debris with the use a broom or a vacuum cleaner. Wooden floors can cleaned with damp mop using diluted Osmo Wash and Care. If over time signs of wear have become visible to a surface, simply apply one coat onto the approapriately cleaned area. 
 

How long does Osmo Polyx Oil last?

The answer to this question is very much down to the level of wear on the applied surface, the weather conditions for external use and the use internally. Osmo Polyx Oil should last at least a couple of years and low contact areas will last for many years. Should wear become noticeable you can apply another single coat on top to re-juvinate the surface giving it a fresh look again giving it protection for more years.

Which Osmo Oil is for oak doors?

For external oak doors Osmo UV-Protection Oil is ideal. This natural oil based microporous finish won’t crack, flake or peel and offers protection against the elements and protects against UV by a factor of 12 in comparison to untreated wood.
For internal oak doors Osmo Polyx Oil is recommended, it is water and dirt resistant, durable and enhances the wood’s natural character.

 

Applying Osmo Polyx Oil to doors?

Osmo Polyx Oil is ideal for internal doors. The surface must be clean and dry, old paints and lacquers must be removed. A trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces. Allow 8-10 hours to dry with good ventilation. Apply a second coat.
 

Which Osmo oil is for worktops?

Osmo Top Oil is ideal for wooden work tops. The microporous hardwax-oil wood finish is very hardwearing. Osmo Top Oil is water repellent and dirt resistant, food safe and resistant against kitchen liquids like wine, tea, coffee, milk, water etc and can simply be wiped clean with a cloth. 
 

How to apply Osmo Top Oil?

The wood surface must be clean and dry. Stir before use, Osmo Top Oil is ready to use, and requires no thinning. Old paints and lacquers must be removed through sanding. Apply a thin layer along the wood grain with a lint free cloth, allow to dry for approx. 8-10 hours, apply 2-3 layers, drying between coats.
 

Which Osmo Wood oil is for exterior use?

Osmo has a range of oils for external use, including Osmo UV-Protection Oil, a natural oil based and microporous finish which does not crack, flake or peel and protects against external weather elements including UV protection. Ideal for windows, doors, cladding, fencing and other vertically structured joinery. Osmo also offers a lightly tinted protective UV protection oil in a range of wood colours. Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain allows the wood to breath and reduces the risk of swelling and shrinkage, protects against UV and contains ingredients which protect from mould, algae and fungal risks.
 

Which Osmo oil is for internal use?

Osmo has a range of oils for internal use. Osmo Polyx Oil is used for internal doors, floors and furniture. This hard wearing oil provides durable protection. Osmo Wood Wax Finish is designed for oily, ingredient rich and dark wood species such as teak, ceder, ebony and iroko. One application produces satin finish which can be polished. Osmo Door Oil is specially formulated to protect interior veneered wooden doors and is water and dirt resistant and enhances the wood’s natural character. Osmo Top Oil is microporous natural hardwax wood finish which is food safe and extremely tough and water and dirt resistant.
